Terms of Service
Effective 5 July 2026 · Last updated 5 July 2026
The short version.
Keel helps you research and compare cars. It is decision support, not financial, legal, or purchasing advice, and it does not sell cars. The listing and pricing data comes from third parties and can be wrong, so verify anything important with the dealer before you buy. Your data is yours. Use the service fairly and don't scrape or abuse it.
1. The agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Keel ("Keel", "we", "us") governing your use of the Keel website and application (the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. What the Service is — and is not
Keel is a car-shopping decision-support tool. It gathers vehicle listings, estimates out-the-door prices and cost of ownership, and helps you compare options against priorities you set. Keel does not sell vehicles, broker transactions, arrange financing, or take part in any purchase. Nothing in the Service is financial, tax, legal, or professional advice. The estimates and scores are informational aids to help you think — the decision, and its consequences, are yours.
3. Your account
You can use much of Keel without an account. If you choose to sync your data, you sign in with a one-time magic link sent to your email. You are responsible for keeping access to that email secure, and for activity under your account. Accounts are for individual humans — one account per person. You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- scrape, crawl, or harvest data from the Service, or run automated or bulk queries against it;
- resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the Service or its data without our written permission;
- attempt to bypass rate limits, security controls, or authentication;
- interfere with or disrupt the Service, or probe it for vulnerabilities outside a responsible-disclosure context;
- use the Service to break the law, infringe others' rights, or misrepresent yourself.
We may suspend or limit access to protect the Service or other users.
5. Your content and data
You own the preferences, notes, saved cars, and other content you put into Keel. We do not claim ownership of it. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store, process, and display that content solely to operate and improve the Service for you, as described in our Privacy Policy. You can export or delete your content at any time, which ends that license except for backups and de-identified data as described in the Privacy Policy.
6. Third-party data and listings
Listings, vehicle specifications, dealer information, and market prices shown in Keel come from third-party sources. We work to surface accurate information, but we do not control it and cannot guarantee it is correct, current, complete, or available. Prices, availability, fees, and tax estimates are approximations and can change without notice. Always confirm the details — price, fees, condition, and the final out-the-door figure — directly with the dealer or seller before making a purchase. Links to third-party sites are provided for convenience and are governed by those sites' own terms.
7. Service availability and changes
Keel is offered on an "as is" and "as available" basis and is currently in beta. We may add, change, or remove features, and we may suspend or discontinue the Service, at any time. We are not liable for any unavailability or for changes to the Service.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service and all information in it are provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any estimate or score will reflect the actual terms available to you.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Keel and the people who build it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any lost profits, lost savings, or amounts paid for a vehicle, arising out of or related to your use of the Service — even if we have been advised of the possibility. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars (USD $100). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
10. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold Keel harmless from claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service or your violation of these Terms or of applicable law.
11. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your data at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or to protect the Service or its users. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnity — will survive.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You and Keel agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in New York for any dispute not subject to another agreed process, and to the extent permitted by law.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
